Doctor Salinas summarized the changes: prohibitions on full‑face paint or masks and makeup that obscures identity; secondary students required to wear school IDs at all times; only clear or mesh backpacks allowed; limits on jeggings/leggings unless a top meets a specified length; a prohibition on pajamas at secondary schools (with principals retaining authority for special days); and an elementary‑only rule banning visible facial piercings (including spacers) that must be removed to comply. The district will publish clarifying guidance and examples on its website.
Staff said the changes were minor and not the result of a legislative session, and that the district will provide a flyer and online information prior to the start of school. Trustees voted to approve the code of conduct, with the motion passing 7–0.
The board’s action fulfills the annual requirement to adopt a student code of conduct under state discipline law; staff did not request additional changes beyond those described at the meeting.
