A trustee moved and the board approved a professional services agreement with the Texas A&M University‑San Antonio Institute for School and Community Partnerships for planning and startup services for the academy at an amount not to exceed $375,000 for the period June 1, 2026 through Sept. 15, 2026, district staff said. Staff explained the CSP award totals $900,000 but that TEA had given the district a narrow timeframe to obligate funds once the notice is issued.
Separately, the board approved a furniture purchase (Indigo) for Frank Tejeda Beyond Academy totaling $285,262 under buy board contract 767‑25, to be funded through the district general fund via the charter schools program pending the grant award. The board also approved technology purchases from Apple Inc., InTech Southwest and Earthwalk Communications totaling $219,096 to provide full‑function laptops for students and staff, iPads and classroom devices; staff said Chromebooks currently issued will be replaced on that campus and repurposed elsewhere.
Trustees asked about procurement details and vendor selection; staff said the purchases were being brought to the board proactively so work could begin immediately once TEA releases the NOVA. The board approved the motions on voice/roll call and directed staff to proceed after TEA’s formal award.
The board did not allocate the CSP award itself during the meeting; staff said the district is still awaiting TEA’s signature on the NOVA and that it has through Sept. 30 to spend the grant funds once awarded.
