At its Oct. 17 meeting the Key Colony Beach City Commission took a series of unanimous votes on ordinances, grants and procedural items.
What the commission approved (roll call votes unanimous unless noted): - Adoption: Ordinance 2024‑492 (amendments to the Florida Building Code as adopted locally), Ordinance 2024‑493 (freeboard requirements), Ordinance 2024‑494 (order of business for commission meetings). Vice‑Mayor Freddie Foster made the motions and they were seconded and approved by the commission. - First reading: Ordinance 2024‑495 (amendment to yard-waste collection). The second reading was scheduled for Nov. 21. - Grants: FDEP Grant Agreement P5035 for Sunset Park (scope: picnic area, ADA access, shoreline stabilization) and FDEP Grant Agreement P5040 for 7th Street Park (a $50,000 grant for landscaping around tennis courts) were approved. - Consent action moved: the interim report on data and observations from the detention pond at Shelter Bay Drive prepared by Dave McKeehan was pulled from consent and the commission voted to release the data. - Special request: Havana Jack’s Restaurant was granted permission to extend music hours to 1:00 a.m. on New Year’s Eve.
Each listed motion passed by roll call with the five commissioners recorded as voting "yes": Mayor Joey Raspe, Vice‑Mayor Freddie Foster, Commissioner Tom Harding, Commissioner Doug Colonell and Commissioner Tom DiFransico.
What’s next: the City Clerk noted Ordinance 2024‑495 will have its second reading on Nov. 21; several fee resolutions were postponed to the November meeting for further review; wastewater billing will be discussed at the Nov. 18 town hall meeting.
