Key Colony Beach commission approves sewer fee increase and a package of contracts, renewals

The Key Colony Beach City Commission on Sept. 19 adopted a package of motions and votes that included a change to monthly sewer fees, contract renewals and awards, and approvals for City Hall interior demolition. The votes were unanimous.
The commission approved Ordinance 2024‑491 on second and final reading, adopting an increase to monthly sewer fees after a formal motion by Commissioner Tom Harding. City Clerk Silvia Roussin confirmed the ordinance was adopted and will take effect according to its provisions.
The commission also unanimously adopted Resolution 2024‑14, extending for one year the interlocal agreement with the City of Marathon to provide Emergency Medical and Fire Rescue services, with a small scrivener’s correction noted and to be fixed in the resolution text.
Other formal approvals taken in the meeting included: approval of Warrant 0824 for $1,232,762.09; approval to award ITB 2024‑03 to McCourt Construction (staff will prepare contract documents for Commission review prior to execution); acceptance of the BrightView landscape contract for $22,272; acceptance of the Iguana Control contract for $15,630; approval of Sunbelt Invoice No. 157651671 for a diesel generator rental; selection of Chen Moore & Associates for comprehensive planning services at $10,000; and approval of a $9,860 estimate from Century Construction to perform City Hall interior demolition. The commission also voted to discontinue the Rentalscape monitoring service and to rename the trailer‑lot phone back to the TIPLINE.
A Utility Board recommendation to reject an engineering proposal from Mittauer Engineering for a WRF generator replacement (estimated $31,000) was approved. A related discussion noted that the city’s existing diesel generator had only about 300 service hours and that parts remain available, but members discussed the likelihood that replacement will be necessary at some point and the possibility of pursuing grant funding.
All roll‑call votes recorded at the meeting were unanimous.
