Madison board approves consent agenda including hires, grants, airport agreement and emergency contract

The Mayor and Board of Aldermen approved a broad Consent Agenda at their May 19 meeting that bundled routine minutes, financial dockets, personnel actions, grants, project reports and procurement approvals.
The board approved minutes and claims dockets and accepted departmental reports. Personnel actions approved on the Consent Agenda included hiring Deshawn T. Bush and William G. Morell as full‑time police officers effective June 1, 2026; transferring Nathaniel Sims from the Street Department to the Water Department effective May 6, 2026; and hiring Wyatt M. Gibbons as a seasonal part‑time parks grounds crew member effective May 20, 2026.
The board ratified acceptance of Keep America Beautiful grant awards, authorized $2,500 from the Federal Drug Assets Fund for Police Department use, and approved a sole‑source purchase of a Lab Light Analyzer from Orange Photonics for the Police Department. The board also authorized and approved an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration for operation and maintenance of AWOS broadcasting hardware at Bruce Campbell Field and ratified an emergency contract for the Cotton Hill well pump pull.
Other consent items included authorization for pay application #9 to Hemphill Construction for the Tisdale Pump Station & Force Main project, multiple project status reports and federal/state paperwork acknowledgements for Rice Road and Highland Colony Parkway overlay projects, authorization for various professional services agreements (subject to city attorney review), and approval of Art Center Board changes — accepting Leigha Nix’s retirement and appointing Bradley Davis effective May 20, 2026. Alderman Janie Jarvis moved to approve the Consent Agenda and Alderman Guy Bowering seconded; the minutes record that the vote was unanimous.
