At its May 19 meeting, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the City of Madison approved a package of community development items, voting unanimously on site plans, preliminary plats and variances recommended by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
Environment & Design Consultant Alan Hoops presented the items. The board approved architectural plans and a building permit for the Center for Contemporary Dentistry expansion; a preliminary plat for Main Street Commercial (the Lady May Restaurant site at 2051 Main Street); and a site plan for a medical office building at One Madison Plaza (Lots 10 and 11). The site plan for Main Street Buildings was approved contingent on staff notes.
The board also approved the preliminary plat and two variances for Iron Row (west of Take 5 Oil Change and GoShine Car Wash), allowing Lot 8 to be reduced in minimum lot size from 30,000 to 25,000 square feet and reducing required lot width from 200 to 125 feet. Separately, the board approved a reduction in the rear yard setback for Encore Dance Studio from 50 to 25 feet and approved the site plan for the studio.
All community development approvals were presented as having been recommended for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission; aldermen moved and seconded each item and votes were unanimous, as recorded in the minutes. The approvals clear the way for permitting and construction steps managed through city staff and conditioned on any outstanding staff notes or permit submittals.
Alan Hoops was the presenting staff member on these items; motions were made by various aldermen during the meeting and each motion passed without recorded opposition. The minutes do not list specific permit timelines or building‑permit application statuses beyond the approvals recorded at the meeting.
