The Woodbury County Board approved a resolution and letter of support for a Competitive Highway Bridge Program application for a bridge east of Anthon on D38 near the L36 intersection. Secondary roads engineer Laura Severs told the board the project’s construction estimate is about $1.5 million and that similar grants typically cover 65%–80% of eligible costs, leaving local matching funds in the neighborhood of $300,000 to $525,000 depending on the award.
Severs said Woodbury County identified the bridge from a statewide list of possible candidates and bundled the project with a nearby Monona County DOT project for letting in October 2028 and construction in 2029. She said the county is asking the board to sign a letter and adopt a resolution to certify that it will meet the grant program requirements and provide matching funds if the application is successful.
The board approved the resolution and signed the letter of support by unanimous vote. Staff noted the application is an initial step; awards will be announced through the DOT and future steps will return to the board for budgeting and project scheduling if the grant is awarded.
