Commissioner outlines FDOT tentative 2025–2030 work plan projects affecting the Keys

Harding identified repairs scheduled for the Vaca Cut Bridge in 2027 and Channel 5 Bridge in 2026, and said there is a proposal to convert the Snake Creek Bridge to a fixed bridge. He said Bahia Honda is slated for repairs and that FDOT will continue small repairs to the older seven‑mile bridge to keep it stable until a planned replacement about 2035. Harding said FDOT requires bridge replacements after about 50 years and noted that Sadowski Causeway does not fall under FDOT responsibility and would remain the city’s obligation.
Harding reported that FDOT has been open to providing details and that counties and municipalities are still awaiting formal project approvals, which are expected in July 2025 under the FDOT schedule he cited. He also noted that nearby municipalities, including Marathon, have received funding for shoreline and beach projects such as Cocoplum and Sombrero Beach.
No formal regional funding decisions were taken at the townhall; Harding presented the summary to inform residents and to flag infrastructure items the city may need to monitor or coordinate on with county or FDOT staff.
