"We are looking to reduce the overall footprint by about 50%," said Keith Truman, the borough staff presenter, explaining the committee's goal to prioritize ADA access and high‑value equipment while staying within the grant budget.
Committee members said the plan retains two refurbished swing sets (donated by Sons and Sisters of Bridgeport), adds an ADA‑accessible merry‑go‑round, and creates a McAdam running loop around the park to improve circulation. The committee also emphasized shade as a high priority; residents asked for additional shaded seating near the "mommy benches." Dana Thompson, a parent whose children attend Bridgeport Elementary, praised the design and urged more shaded seating, saying she appreciated the accessibility features.
Project funding: Truman said the project is funded in part by a Local Share Account grant (casino‑derived revenues) and that the borough received a "very generous" award. Staff told the council that equipment delivery was delayed by manufacturing backlogs; delivery was projected for late September, with installation beginning in late September or early October.
The council approved Resolution 20 26 45 to execute General Recreation's proposal; the motion passed by voice vote. Borough staff said public‑works crews have been preparing the site so installation can begin promptly once materials arrive.
What happens next: Staff will finalize procurement and scheduling with the contractor, continue tree planting and site prep, and consider additional shade and sponsorship options for benches as future enhancements.
