On Aug. 7 the Lake Worth Beach Planning & Zoning Board recommended that the City Commission approve Ordinance 2024-11, which amends Article 4 of the Land Development Regulations (Section 23.4-25) governing micro-units. Staff described the measure as a revision that reduces a prior percentage cap from 20% to 15% and adds an exception; board members discussed design trade-offs and potential nuisance concerns for conversions of existing structures.
Board members noted the ordinance defines a micro-unit as 250 to 750 square feet with a fully functional kitchen and bath. To address design and livability concerns, the board added a recommended exception that would require a minimum of 10% interior common space and 5% exterior common space for qualifying projects. Vice-Chair Daniel Walesky moved to forward the recommendation to the City Commission with that exception; Henry Pawski seconded and the board voted unanimously to recommend the ordinance with the added requirements.
The recommendation now moves to the City Commission for consideration and final action.
