Monterey County launches Dolly Parton's Imagination Library; about 2,500 of 24,000 eligible children enrolled so far

Monterey County's early-childhood nonprofit partnership 1st 5 announced this month the local launch of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a free mail-order book program for children from birth until their fifth birthday.
"Approximately 24,000 children in Monterey County can receive free books through Dolly Parton's Imagination Library," said Rebecca Zuniga of 1st 5 Monterey County. Since launching on June 18, Zuniga said about 2,500 children in the county have enrolled, "so we're already very close to reaching nearly 10% of our goal."
Registration is designed to be quick: families may scan a QR code, use a direct website link, or register with the help of community partners. Zuniga said families can expect the first book to arrive in approximately six to eight weeks after registration and then receive a monthly age-appropriate title until the child turns 5. Materials and a step-by-step video tutorial are available in English and Spanish, and community organizations can order outreach supplies including flyers, rack cards and banners.
Zuniga said the program has received positive community response and that 1st 5 will continue outreach through partners to increase enrollment in the coming months.
