At the meeting the Wahoo Public Schools board approved a package of operational and safety items that included communications, cameras, building access and handbook updates.
A motion to approve a handheld-radio upgrade from 1st Wireless (contract referenced) passed; the vendor proposal described routing building channels through the district repeater to extend emergency and bus-channel reach. The motion referenced an amount of $527,158 for 1st Wireless equipment and installation and was seconded and carried.
The board also approved a Mainstay Communications camera upgrade at a cost not to exceed $53,008.66 after staff recommended a hosting-platform consolidation and a mix of 1080p and 4K camera resolution appropriate for district needs.
On building access, staff recommended adding fob/buzzer control on elementary hallway doors and routing visitor access through office check-in; the board approved the plan, which staff estimated would cost less than $5,000.
Separately, the board approved policy updates provided by KSP (one correction to a construction-limiting amount) and accepted the proposed student and staff handbooks for the 2026'27 school year. Members asked staff to monitor food quality tied to the meal-price adjustments earlier in the meeting and to report any vendor-quality issues promptly.
Each vote was taken after brief discussion and in all cases the board recorded affirmative support for the motions presented; staff will proceed with procurement and contract execution consistent with the approved amounts and return any notable contract amendments to the board for approval.
