Committee hears parks and facilities updates; landscaping, repairs and timber sales underway
Summary
Staff reported ongoing maintenance and projects across county facilities and parks, including courthouse painting, HVAC repairs, tree replacements, park asphalt and restroom work, four active timber sales, and equipment/installation delays; staff said the Buildings & Grounds department is fully staffed.
On July 7 the Buildings & Grounds and Forestry & Parks staff reported routine maintenance and a slate of projects across county properties.
Josh Isaacson, Buildings and Grounds Superintendent, reported no major repairs but listed minor lighting and plumbing work, ongoing issues with the jail’s commercial washer and dishwasher, repair of the compressor that controls air conditioning at the Courthouse and Sheriff’s Department, and finishing touches on interior Courthouse painting. The department is noted as fully staffed and beginning preventive-maintenance inspections; fire extinguishers (including in the server room) were recently inspected and hallway signs were ordered from Sign Studio.
Forestry Administrator Joe Grapa outlined landscaping plans for the Courthouse and Normal Building, including tree replacement, lawn repairs, erosion fill and sidewalk work. Grapa recommended planting Red Oak and/or Sugar Maple and discussed purchasing trees locally; committee discussion covered direction for the Buildings & Grounds Superintendent to plant trees on the Courthouse front lawn.
Parks updates included a second layer of asphalt at Solberg Lake Park and scheduled professional painting, bathroom railing installation, washer and dryer installation in a new addition, opening of an ATV trail, and maintenance on statues at the Concrete Park. At Timm’s Hill Park staff reported work on the fishing pier, pavilion and beach; the timber sale at Timm’s Hill is nearly set up. Two toilets scheduled for Big Falls Park installations are delayed and ordered lights for those sites. Campsites at Smith Lake Park were smoothed, four timber sales are active, materials were purchased for work on Lugerville Grade Road, and work on Steve Creek Range is expected to begin in the coming months.
No formal committee action was taken on these routine project updates; staff will proceed with scheduled maintenance and report back as projects progress.
