UNR Street Reach, a collaborative program led by the University of Nevada, Reno, told the council it has delivered low‑barrier street health services since April 1. Director Jane Fox said the program has conducted roughly 550 outreach interactions, enrolled 188 people in ongoing services, done about 140 blood draws for HIV and hepatitis screening, provided 51 wound‑care treatments and linked patients to care including hepatitis C treatment and HIV services.
Fox said the program operates a small team of nurses and community health workers for "feet in the street" outreach, provides showers and laundry through partnerships at Village on Sage, and is expanding with a donated mobile health clinic and additional behavioral‑health staffing. Councilmembers praised the program and suggested further coordination with the county's HOPES team, community health‑worker credentialing and ways the city can remove practical barriers (pet vaccine/license waivers and spay/neuter support) for unhoused clients.
What happens next: Staff and council members offered city support and asked UNR to return with an interim report and a list of material and volunteer needs (Street Reach maintains an Amazon wish list).
