Griffith council approves Ridge Road water-tower work, Erie Lackawanna resurfacing bid and refuse collection RFP

The Griffith Town Council approved three measures at its meeting, including a proposal to proceed with work at the Ridge Road water tower with engineering costs of $179,935.
Council member Merker moved to proceed with the Ridge Road proposal, saying the combined work "comes out to $179,935." The motion was seconded and the chair called a voice vote; the motion carried.
Council member Tony Hobson introduced Resolution No. 2026-6, authorizing the invitation to bid for Erie Lackawanna Trail improvements described as a border-to-border resurfacing project. Hobson moved adoption of the resolution; a second was recorded and the council approved the resolution by voice vote.
Council member Balan introduced Resolution No. 2026-7, authorizing issuance of a request for proposals for collection and disposal of refuse and recyclables. Council members discussed the town's existing contract, which the council said is set to expire Nov. 30, with any new contract to be effective Dec. 1. The chair noted the town anticipates the RFP will be available within a day or two and that copies can be obtained from the Clerk Treasurer's Office. The council approved the resolution by voice vote.
During a separate Water Board session convened as part of the meeting, board members approved the minutes of the June 16 meeting and approved claims totaling $171,053.40 after a motion and second.
In public comment, residents reported storm-related debris at private yards and said state and FEMA inspectors had gone door-to-door to gather damage estimates. One resident thanked the town for storm assistance and shared information about a new state process allowing property-tax exemptions for disabled veterans (eligibility described at 50%, 75% or 100% depending on disability percentage); the resident said the county VA is distributing an application form at the county complex (Room 311, 3rd Floor). The chair asked staff to post the new form on the town website.
The council and water board adjourned after completing the listed business.
