The Borough of Ramsey on July 22 introduced Ordinance 18-2026, which would increase water-usage fees by 3.62% effective Sept. 1. The change was presented as an update recommended by the Board of Public Works and supported by the municipal administrator and council.
Officials said rising costs for enhanced water-quality testing, monitoring and treatment are driving the increase. "With enhanced regulations on water quality, the cost of testing, monitoring, and treatment of all drinking water continues to increase," the administrator said, adding that Ramsey's water quality has met all federal and state requirements and that the borough had no drinking-water violations during the 2025 calendar year.
The ordinance was taken up for first reading and scheduled for a final vote at the council's August meeting. The administrator also noted that the Board of Public Works approved the fee recommendation after discussion at DPW meetings.
Residents were directed to the borough website for the municipal annual water quality reports and additional information about the fee change.
