Sean Kelly said the auditorium fixtures were decades old—some carried over from the previous Wasatch High building—and that the house lighting operates at "30 to 40%" functionality in places. He told the board Barbizon offered the most comprehensive plan and recommended awarding the full package to them while allowing staff to pare back select fixtures during implementation.
Kelly presented comparative figures for parts of the work (he cited a house‑lighting figure of $49,020 and identified a higher Oasis bid), and said the total package would be managed as a not‑to‑exceed amount so the final scope can be adjusted after vendor walk‑throughs with district staff and the theater manager.
Board members asked about warranties, whether the package includes a new control board and the expected longevity of LED fixtures; Kelly said warranty details would be part of the vendor contract and that some electrical work could be handled by district journeyman electricians. He also told the board the lights the vendor proposed are made in the U.S.
The board approved the motion by voice vote. Kelly said staff will work with the vendor to finalize the fixture list and reduce items when appropriate to meet the budget cap.
