The Wasatch County School Board voted Wednesday to approve the purchase of a 2026 Chevy 3500 maintenance truck, after hearing from Sean Kelly that the vehicle from Labrum Chevrolet best matched the district's specifications.
Kelly told the board the district solicited two bids, and recommended Labrum (Labram in parts of the record) because the vehicle matched the requested chassis and features and was available locally. He said the Labrum bid was "the truck that we wanted," and recommended awarding it to Labrum Chevrolet for $50,006.48, citing snow-plow readiness and feature differences with the competing bid.
During the motion, a board member read the purchase price as $50,648.20; the board approved the motion by voice vote. Kelly noted the district's capital improvement budget for the truck was $65,000, leaving funds available to purchase a work bed and snow plow after the chassis is acquired.
Board members asked practical questions about whether the dealer would remove the factory bed and about timing for purchasing the bed and plow; Kelly said the bed removal is reflected as a deduction on the sticker and that the remaining equipment purchases would likely appear on a future consent agenda.
The purchase was approved unanimously; the board did not direct any follow-up study or amendment to the purchase at the meeting and confirmed the transaction remains below the board's authorized budget for the project.
