Cedar County Board confirms appointments, approves permit and EMS handbook changes, and dissolves Radio Governance Board

At its July 14, 2026 meeting, the Cedar County Board of Supervisors approved a series of routine and governance actions: appointments to the Eminent Domain Commission, a utility permit, EMS handbook changes, a consultant briefing on permitting, and a change in radio governance.

Appointments: The Board appointed Donovan Yoder, Bill Schwietzer and Tony Wagner to the Eminent Domain Commission in separate unanimous motions. Each appointment was moved and seconded by supervisors as recorded in the minutes; all motions were recorded "Ayes: All."

Utility permit and EMS handbook: The Board approved a utility permit for Liberty Communications on Baker Avenue and confirmed the $100 fee applies. The Board also approved handbook changes for county EMS as recommended by HR Attorney Galloway. Both items were moved and passed unanimously.

Contracted consultant: Terry Goerdt of Goerdt Inspections and Consultations Services, LLC met with the Board and said he will review Cedar County’s Zoning and Subdivision Ordinances and will participate in an upcoming meeting regarding the county’s online permitting process. The Board held general discussion following his remarks.

Radio governance: Sheriff Wethington told the Board that requests to change the county radio system go before a Radio Governance Board as well as the 911 Board and described the arrangement as redundant. He recommended dissolving the Radio Governance Board and substituting the 911 Board for future radio‑system decisions. The Board approved dissolving the Radio Governance Board and utilizing the 911 Board (motion moved by Supervisor Kaufmann, seconded by Supervisor Bixler), recorded as "Ayes: All." Sheriff Wethington presented the change as an administrative consolidation to streamline reviews of radio-system changes.

The meeting adjourned at 10:16 a.m.; the Board scheduled its next regular meeting for July 21, 2026.
