Mayor Ray Nyhuis presented a proposal to place up to 26 advertising panels (4 feet by 8 feet) along the Andrews Avenue fence line as a revenue-generating program. Proposed rates were $100 to $125 per month per panel or $1,000 per year if prepaid; advertisers would supply banners subject to Village approval.
The proposal included content restrictions: no alcohol advertising, no sexual content and no marijuana-related advertisements. Council members raised multiple concerns about the program's potential visual impact and whether panels would appear "tacky," the possibility of traffic distraction and related safety risks, and the need for a formal procurement process and vendor comparisons.
Council asked staff to research how similar programs are administered elsewhere, identify potential vendors, and prepare procurement options along with a draft agreement and contract terms for future Council review. No formal motion or vote on the advertising program was recorded at the meeting.
