Staff reports: Greensburg launches Talking Trail, mural grant awarded, solar project begins and generator planning advances

Administrator Stacy Barnes reported that the Greensburg Talking Trail is live, Tourism received a $10,000 Kansas Arts Commission grant for a Davis Park mural, KPP PACE Solar Project construction has begun at the Business Park, and site survey work is underway for a backup generator near the substation.
Administrator Stacy Barnes delivered a multi-item staff report at the July 6 meeting.
Barnes said the Greensburg Talking Trail is up and running with signs placed mostly downtown and provided council a link to view the sites online. Tourism Director Heather Bailey secured a $10,000 Kansas Arts Commission grant for a Davis Park mural; the former pool bath house has been power-washed and primed for the project.
Barnes reported a letter of intent remains active with Statera for development at the Business Park but that the company does not have a start date. Construction on the KPP PACE Solar Project at the Business Park has begun with driveway installation and fencing. Garber Surveying completed a survey for a utility easement next to the substation to support placement of a fully enclosed backup diesel generator; Barnes and others visited a similar installation in Neodesha, Kansas and found the sound level acceptable.
Other updates: the city website migrated to a new hosting platform on June 24, 2026 (staff repopulated some content), the remaining dirt behind the new child care facility will be used to fill an old basement once equipment is arranged, Public Works evaluated crack-sealing options and will pursue quotes for product and equipment rental, and staff thanked community volunteers for a successful Fourth of July celebration.
