The West Goshen Township Board of Supervisors on July 21 approved a special-event permit for Westchester University's Ram Rally Under the Lights, scheduled for Aug. 21, including a fireworks display.
Township staff said the university submitted a special-event application, a map showing the fireworks location, vendor licenses, and a flyer for the event. Staff also reported the university has coordinated with Goodfellowship Ambulance Company, local police departments and the township fire marshal; the fire marshal told staff he had no concerns so long as the vendor follows last year's procedures.
Board members pressed staff and university representatives about safety and contingencies. "They'll be there, and they help monitor the event during and after," a university representative said when asked who would make the call on cancelling for drought risk. Staff said the vendor used thermal cameras and a drone last year and the fire department will monitor. The vendor has also identified a rain date (Sunday, Aug. 23) and indicated the vendor would cancel fireworks in persistent rain.
Board member Nate suggested placing signs to notify attendees about timing and access; staff agreed to take that under advisement. After a brief public comment and no objections from supervisors, the board voted to approve the permit (vote recorded as 5-0).
