Ashland Board of Health honors two residents with Mary Mortensen Public Health Award

The Ashland Board of Health presented the 9th Annual Mary Mortensen Public Health Award to residents Amy Turncliff and Kirsten Quern during its July 7 meeting. Chair Ed Burman opened the meeting and announced the dual recipients, noting the award honors community service in public health.
Michael Herbert recounted a story highlighting how, despite having been on opposite sides of a 2018 Town Meeting ballot issue, Turncliff and Quern have both contributed substantively to local public-health efforts; he thanked them for their continued work for the community. Board Clerk David Kinsman read the Proclamation of Recognition for Kirsten Quern, and Member Barbra Sekesogundu Simon read the Proclamation of Recognition for Amy Turncliff. Both recipients came forward to receive their proclamations.
Susan Robie, speaking during the presentation, thanked the Board “for continuing the legacy of this annual Award recognizing my mom,” and congratulated both Turncliff and Quern. The Board included the proclamations in the meeting packet and listed them among documents reviewed at the meeting.
The recognition highlights volunteer contributions to local public-health efforts and preserves the memory of Mary Mortensen through annual awards. The Board did not take formal regulatory action related to the presentations.
