Committee to include Interim Village Manager on EGLE correspondence and designate Peavey as field representative

At its June 30 meeting, the Joint Lake & River Restoration Committee agreed that future communications with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) about the Lake Isabella restoration should include Interim Village Manager Manley and that Village member Peavey will serve as the Village’s representative at field meetings when staff cannot attend. The change is intended to ensure consistent, documented information for residents and staff.
The Joint Lake & River Restoration Committee voted informally at its June 30 meeting to change how it documents and shares information with state regulators and residents. Committee Chairperson Burmeister said all future email communications with the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy — EGLE — concerning the lake restoration project should include Interim Village Manager Manley so “all parties have access to the same information” and can give consistent answers to residents.
Shannon opened the discussion about communications, and several members said they sometimes are unaware of current project status. King noted many of his contacts with EGLE and vendors occur by telephone; Burmeister directed that after any such telephone call King should send an email summarizing what was discussed and copy Manley to create a written record.
Manley said she may be unable to attend every field meeting with EGLE and asked that Village member Peavey serve as the Village representative for site visits when staff cannot attend; Peavey agreed. Burmeister said Peavey would be included in communications and dredging-related field meetings when appropriate so the Village remains informed of project progress.
The committee also agreed that draft meeting minutes and other project communications should be distributed to all committee members and that members will check for and read minutes when they are circulated.
Implementation: Committee members directed staff and project contacts to begin copying Manley on EGLE emails and to require written email summaries after phone calls; Peavey will serve as the Village representative at field meetings when Village staff are unavailable. The committee scheduled its next meeting for July 28, 2026.
