Board hears first reading to integrate affordable rental housing certification

The board heard a first reading of an ordinance amendment to integrate a new affordable rental housing certification and to establish a voluntary incentive program.
Ben presented the amendment to Chapter 22 (housing), explaining the new Section 504d certification and a voluntary incentive program the planning department would administer with input from the Affordable Housing Commission. Ben said the materials in the packet set out program purpose, eligibility, income and rent restrictions, reporting and enforcement mechanisms and that the commission has been coordinating with the Lafayette County tax assessor and supervisors. He noted a resolution and implementation documents will follow; this reading asked only to insert the code language authorizing the program.
Board members thanked staff and noted the item will return for a second reading and public hearing at a future meeting.
