The Oxford Board of Aldermen on Feb. 17 adopted a retirement resolution honoring Lieutenant Mark Hodges of the Oxford Police Department and approved a request allowing him to purchase his service weapon for $1 under state law.
A colleague read the proclamation summarizing Hodges’ career: he joined the department in 2009, served in patrol, K‑9, narcotics, SWAT and as a school resource officer, and helped start programs such as a cell‑phone forensics capability and the OPD drone program. Hodges addressed the board, saying serving Oxford has been 'the greatest honor of my life' and thanking his family, fellow officers and the community.
The board approved the retirement resolution and then approved the request permitting Hodges to purchase his service weapon for $1, as allowed by state statute. The motions passed by voice vote.
