Water staff reported that the Children's Water Festival drew 1,031 fourth‑grade students, 43 teachers and more than 170 volunteers, with over 40 presentations and hands‑on activities.
Theresa McGeady presented water‑quality testing results for Lakeview Pond, reporting that measured values were within the U.S. EPA’s recreational limits. McGeady explained that the Ohio EPA does test fish tissue in specified public water bodies but that Lakeview Pond is not eligible for fish testing because it is not classified as a public lake; she offered copies of the Ohio Sport Fish Guidebook and said the EPA can address fish‑consumption questions when water bodies meet eligibility criteria for testing.
The Stormwater group said its follow‑up inspection of the drainage area did not identify concerns. The board noted the pond is stocked annually before a city‑sponsored fishing derby; Chairperson Sarah McKnight said she would research stocking details and report back to the board.
On solid‑waste matters, the Solid Waste District reported a USDA Regional Food System Partnership application has been submitted and highlighted a June 27 recycling collection event hosted by Circles of Kindness/Channel 7 that will include Styrofoam collection. Staff also plan to apply for a National Household Food Waste Prevention Grant.
