Adair County engineer reports on culvert, bridge inspections and upcoming paving work

County Engineer Nick Kauffman updated the Adair County Board of Supervisors on July 15 about ongoing and upcoming road and bridge work across the county.
Kauffman told the board the N8 Eureka box culvert will be completed as part of a Hungry Canyons project and that design work is continuing for the N8 Richland project. Crews are working on the W18 Harrison project, where they encountered rock earlier than expected. Grimes Asphalt is scheduled to begin work on the Casey/Rose Acres project on Monday, with work expected to be completed in one day.
Kauffman also said the county must rerate, inspect and re-sign 78 bridges to comply with updated requirements for special-haul vehicles. He reported equipment updates: a new truck is at Hawkeye for repairs, a new motor grader has been delivered, a replacement engine has arrived for the Bridgewater motor grader, and the county plans to sell one grader. Finally, he said crews plan to crush the rock pile in Orient later this fall or winter.
The board approved two related administrative items Kauffman presented: signing the right-of-way contract for the W9 Washington RCB Extension Project (LFM-LRCBEW9W-7X-01) and signing the front page of the plans for that project. Both motions were approved by the board.
