The Union City Borough Council unanimously approved a $22,295 contract with Mansfield to repair a sinkhole and replace roughly 10 feet of 24-inch clay tile in Municipal Lot #1. The motion, moved by Councilor Steadman and seconded by Councilor Osborn, follows recommendations from consultant Bob Carpenter (Insight) and Engineer Tim Wells.
Streets Supervisor Bob Phillips told council the sinkhole had exposed the bottom of a pipe feeding toward the Municipal Authority and that the recommended scope includes replacing the clay tile in the sinkhole area, reconnecting the contributing pipes to the 24-inch line, installing a larger catch basin adjacent to the hole and replacing about 10 feet of pipe. Mansfield’s estimate was $22,295; McLallen Construction submitted a competing estimate for $23,450. Both contractors required the borough provide a truck during the work.
The council approved the lower Mansfield estimate and carried the motion unanimously. The minutes note that the borough must supply a truck for the contractor during the repair; the motion does not specify a start date.
