Albany County appoints Michelle Treving as interim clerk of district court

Albany County commissioners voted July 21 to appoint Michelle Treving as Albany County Clerk of District Court to serve until a successor is elected.

The board interviewed three candidates in open session: Dwayne Streeter, a deputy clerk with 16 years of experience who said he is running for the elected office; Michelle (chief deputy), who asked to be allowed to continue in the office until the election to ensure continuity; and Nicole Trampy, a county employee since 2005 with prior service in the sheriff's office. Candidates described training plans, staffing and transition priorities. Dwayne Streeter told commissioners, "I am a deputy clerk at district court... a position I've held for 16 years," and emphasized training, empathy and stepwise mentoring for staff. Nicole Trampy described supervisory experience and said she would "keep the office at status quo" while ensuring continuity.

After asking the candidates to leave for an executive session on personnel deliberations, the commission reconvened in open session and approved resolution 2026-019 appointing Michelle Treving to the post; the motion carried by voice vote. The chair said staff would prepare the draft resolution and fill in official start and reporting details.

The action is temporary and the appointee will serve until an elected successor takes office following the next general election. The board said staff will prepare onboarding and transition items to ensure continuity of court services during the interim period.
