Township updates and resident concerns: new electrical inspector, crypt roof grant, short‑term rentals questioned

Napoleon Township officials reported multiple operational updates July 14 and heard public comment on several local concerns.

Supervisor Dan Wymer said Matt Wood has transitioned into the township’s new electrical inspector position and that A&J Pest Control has installed rodent‑control devices at township facilities. Wymer described the July 13 Oak Point public information meeting as well attended, lasting about 90 minutes and including public questions and feedback.

Clerk Traci Spring said American Backyard is reviewing its schedule to determine when pothole‑filling on Cemetery Road can begin. Spring also reported that a grant application for crypt roof replacement was submitted to the Napoleon Benefit Fund and that a fund member called for follow‑up questions; the Benefit Fund will vote on the request soon. Wymer added that letters are being sent to residents after correcting address discrepancies for Harvey Drive between the township assessing database and 911 Dispatch.

During public comment, several residents raised township issues: Catherine Rice (8593 Glenwood Ct) spoke about general concerns regarding township operations; Vicki Moore (8707 Bellemere Ct) asked why the Short‑Term Rental ordinance permits remain active or are not revoked when residents are delinquent on taxes, utilities or special assessments; Jan Benoist (8850 Bellemere Ct) commented on a proposed new boat launch; and Sally Haupt (8855 Bellemere Ct) asked when new ordinances would be available for public review.

The board did not take formal action on these public comments at the July 14 meeting. The meeting adjourned at 6:41 p.m.
