Fulshear council backs 36A coalition resolution only if proposed route stays out of city

The Fulshear City Council voted on Feb. 17 to approve a resolution supporting the 36A coalition’s effort to pursue early state funding, but the council attached a clear condition: the city’s support applies only if the corridor does not run through Fulshear’s municipal boundaries.
Council member Russell urged clarity after residents asked whether any route would traverse city limits. “It is not anticipated to traverse the city limits of Fulshear,” Russell said, seeking that language be reflected in the record. City Manager Goodlander told the council the coalition is evaluating multiple alignments and that while a few options could touch the city, they “don’t make a lot of sense” because of acquisition, engineering and construction costs.
A council motion to approve Resolution No. 2026-693 with the stipulation that the route not be within Fulshear was moved and seconded and the council voted in favor. The resolution is intended as an early, supportive step to position the coalition for state funding rather than as a final endorsement of any specific alignment.
Staff offered the option of returning the item if council members want to tighten or revise the conditional language, and suggested the council could approve the resolution with an explicit condition tying support to a determination that no preferred route goes through the city. The council did not direct staff to pursue a different outcome at this meeting.
The action preserves Fulshear’s ability to support a regional corridor while signaling to residents that the city will not back an alignment that bisects local neighborhoods.
