Stratford Communications reports about 1,400 Story County subscribers after ARPA-funded expansion

Shane Bowen of Stratford Communications gave the board an update on July 21 about the company’s ARPA-funded broadband work in Story County, saying the provider is serving approximately 1,400 county subscribers. Bowen said that deployment was supported by a mix of ARPA funds and other grants and loans and that Stratford plans further expansion toward upcoming housing developments in Roland and Story City.
“We now are — we’re right close to 1,400 subscribers as far as Story County is concerned between ARPA funds and some different grants and loans that we’ve taken out to do that,” Bowen said. He added that recent storms have caused no wide-area service problems except at customer premises where power outages occurred and that Stratford will continue to seek opportunities to expand coverage.
Supervisors thanked Bowen and noted the importance of connectivity for school, medical and emergency services in rural areas. Bowen said the company would continue to look for build opportunities where it makes sense for their service model.
