Story County opens bids for Hickory Grove Beach improvement project

The Story County Board of Supervisors opened sealed bids July 21 for the Hickory Grove Beach improvement project and recorded six proposals. County staff read each bidder and their submitted amount before telling the board the bids will be reviewed with engineers and brought to the conservation board in August for further consideration.
County procurement staff announced bids from Caliber Concrete of Adair ($1,169,146.34), Jensen Builders of Des Moines ($1,441,614.00), RW Excavating Solutions of Prairie City ($2,053,265.00), Cushman Excavation LLC of Knoxville ($1,648,007.75), Concrete Connection of Johnston ($1,171,485.50), and Big Lake Construction of Des Moines ($1,524,000.00). A staff member read the numbers aloud during the bid opening: “The bid total amount is $1,169,146.34,” and similar figures for each proposer.
A presenter representing county project staff told the board that after engineers review the bid documents, the county is scheduled to take the bids to the conservation board in August and then return them to the supervisors for any contract decision. No award, motion or vote on an award was taken at the meeting.
The clerk and procurement staff handled the bid opening and acknowledged that addendums 1–3 were included with each submission. The board’s next step is the engineers’ review and conservation board consideration, after which any contract award would come back to the board for formal action.
