The Santa Cruz Valley Union High School District Governing Board adopted the FY 2026–27 Proposed Expenditure Budget at its June 8 regular meeting, approving a conservative spending plan that accounts for a projected 385‑student enrollment. Business Manager Elizabeth Ibarra presented a highlight report showing a $403,323 decrease in the Maintenance and Operation Fund, a $142,515 decrease in the Unrestricted Capital Fund and a $27,064 increase in Classroom Site Funds; the board approved the budget on a motion by Vice President Jerry Olveda and a second from Ralph Moran.
Board members discussed enrollment trends that informed the budget. Superintendent Chrystal Reyes said the district ended the 2025–26 school year with 390 students and reported the incoming freshman class from Eloy Junior High numbered about 72 students, below prior classes. The budget adjustments reflect that reduced projected headcount.
On personnel and administrative matters, the board approved hiring classified staff Adriana Gonzales (State Reporting/Office Manager) and Raoul Perales (Summer Weights Coordinator), adopted proposed salary schedules for certified and classified staff and emergency teachers, and authorized new teachers Leticia Jimenez and Byron Miles to build curriculum maps for FY 26/27. The board also approved Doreen Coronado as Student Activities Treasurer and Adriana Gonzales as Assistant Student Activities Treasurer, and set authorized signers for Enterprise Bank accounts for FY 26/27.
A separate personnel item approved a one‑time stipend for Business Manager Elizabeth Ibarra for additional accounts payable and payroll duties; that motion carried with Ysaguirre, Olveda and Davis voting aye and Moran recording a nay. Consent items including ratification of payroll and expense vouchers for May 2026, approval of May donations, an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Central Arizona Valley Institute of Technology Education District for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027, and insurance coverage forms were all approved by consent.
Transportation staff noted the white fleet will remain available through the end of the current fiscal year but the district plans to operate only yellow fleet vehicles in the upcoming fiscal year and requires CDL‑certified drivers; two drivers recently completed CDL training. The meeting adjourned at 6:53 PM.
