Council backs $250,000 TIF request for Brace Medical clinic project

On July 20 the City of Lewistown council approved resolution 4227, forwarding a TIF application from Brace Medical Clinic for up to $250,000 to support site work, utilities and access for a proposed roughly $8,000,000 multidisciplinary medical facility near the VA clinic.
City staff told the council the project would house multiple local providers (physical therapy, chiropractic, dermatology, orthopedics and specialty care) and estimated the facility would employ about 30 people. The Tax Increment Financing (TIF) advisory board reviewed the application and recommended the request unanimously.
Commissioners discussed statutory limits and matching requirements for TIF/TED funds and were told the district requires a minimum match and that larger projects have correspondingly larger requests. On roll call the motion to approve resolution 4227 passed with five ayes and one no.
Next steps: the TIF award will follow statutory procedures and any final agreements and disbursements will come back to the city for administrative processing.
