Jupiter Inlet Colony adopts comprehensive-plan amendment, approves settlement payment and authorizes legislative letter

The Jupiter Inlet Colony commission unanimously adopted ordinance "1 t 23-03," amending the town's comprehensive plan to update capital improvements scheduling and add a property-rights element, after a simple reading and no public comment. The motion passed 5-0.
The commission also approved a settlement payment to resolve a public-records fee claim brought by James Matthews. The town attorney said the town's insurer does not cover public-records claims and asked for a motion to approve payment of attorney fees and court costs; commissioners moved and approved the payment, which the record reflected as $3,500 in fees and approximately $550 in costs.
Separately, the town manager was authorized to draft a joint letter for the mayor and manager to send to state lawmakers about three legislative priorities: protecting Jonathan Dickinson Park and other public lands, preserving homestead-exemption protections, and opposing state rules that would restrict municipalities' ability to regulate accessory dwelling units.
The commission also approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting by a 5-0 vote and directed staff to pursue additional background materials on other items discussed during the meeting.
