The report included county-level veteran statistics: as of March 2026 the county’s veteran census was 6,474, with 2,120 veterans receiving VA benefits totaling more than $4.187 million per month. The director said initial survey results were provided to commissioners (attached to the director’s report in the record).
On procedural items the commission approved the April 1, 2026 minutes (moved by Commissioner Chuck Wubbena, seconded by Commissioner Joy Briscoe). Commissioners received the agenda as presented (moved by Briscoe, seconded by Wubbena) and approved funds for Veterans Relief (moved by Briscoe, seconded by Wubbena); all motions carried. In new business, the commission approved one-night motel stays for six Warrior Expedition riders not to exceed $1,000 from donated funds (moved by Briscoe, seconded by Wubbena). The commission set its next meeting for June 10, 2026, at 4 p.m. and adjourned at 4:18 p.m.
Commissioner Mike Butler was recorded as absent in the roll call. Commissioner Todd Rosonke was noted in the director’s report as being honored as the office’s "hidden hero of the month."
