West Point council approves boundary-plat adjustment to enable sale and easements for airport-adjacent property
Summary
The Town of West Point approved a boundary-plat adjustment for town-owned land adjacent to the airport that will move a property line into the marsh, create an easement over an existing roadway in place of a right-of-way, and add upland access; the move supports a planned sale to the Public Access Authority and passed by roll-call vote.

Town Manager John B. Edwards Jr. told the West Point Town Council that the town is pursuing a boundary-plat adjustment to facilitate the possible sale of roughly 100 acres to the Public Access Authority and requested council authorization to sign the plat.
Edwards described the adjustment as moving the property line farther into the marsh, placing an easement over the existing roadway rather than the originally platted right-of-way, extending the easement to the main property, and adding an additional easement to provide access to the upland portion. He said that once the adjustment is recorded, staff will prepare a separate plat for the Public Access Authority to consider.
The plat was presented to the council during the work session and again during the regular meeting. During the regular meeting, James Pruett moved to approve the boundary-plat adjustment and Allen White seconded. On roll call, Samantha Bohannon, Johnny Nein, James Pruett, John Ragsdale and Allen White voted "Aye," and the motion passed.
The presentation noted the original plat date as May 2, 2024, with a recent amendment reflecting town comments. Council consensus during the work session was to add the boundary-plat authorization to the town council agenda under the Town Manager's section before the regular meeting vote.
Next steps: staff will record the adjustment and prepare the follow-up plat for the Public Access Authority to consider the proposed purchase and associated easements.
