The Jupiter Inlet Colony commission voted on March 10 to approve a contract with Shenandoah for catch-basin and drainage cleaning at a cost of $37,800, using a piggyback from a Broward County Schools publicly bid contract.
Town manager Heidi Siegel said the system installed in 2017 had not received maintenance and quarterly inspections showed sand buildup in catch basins outside the Beach Club driveway. She said the town coordinated with Kimley Horn and obtained Shenandoah's unit prices through an existing publicly advertised bid, which allowed the town to avoid a separate formal bid process. The manager said the work will address silt buildup and help maintain permit compliance.
Commissioners discussed scope, frequency and cost per drain; staff noted roughly 26 drains in the area and recommended creating an asset-management maintenance plan that would set a recurring schedule (annual or every two years, or quarterly if needed) and budgeting accordingly. A motion to authorize Shenandoah to perform the work and provide backup procurement documentation passed on a voice vote.
Manager Siegel said staff will coordinate staging and traffic control with the police department and will include maintenance planning during the next budget season.
