EPA to be invited for mercury testing; email cites federal money for Silver City water-main replacement

Members of the Silver City Citizen Advisory Board heard several county updates June 8, including a planned EPA presentation and a summary of correspondence about federal funding for water infrastructure.
Chair Melissa Friend said the EPA contacted the board offering mercury testing tied to the Carson River Mercury Superfund site; the EPA will be invited to present at the July meeting and the fall is the last season they plan to offer testing. Erich Obermayr read an email forwarded by Noel Chounet that describes a recently passed appropriation listing a Storey County project receiving $1,500,000 and says the money would support replacement of approximately 8,500 linear feet of a 150-year-old transmission main from SR 342 to an existing county water storage tank. Noel asked that officials related to the project be invited to a future meeting to provide information.
Commissioner Cassinelli provided several additional county updates: the Board of County Commissioners renewed county insurance coverage; a resolution concerning the GID for the industrial center was adopted but NV Energy cannot currently supply power to support growth; the Dayton Depot project is underway; the fiber-optic project will not reach Silver City for an indeterminate period; and a planned fire house may require Central Lyon Fire's involvement and an agenda item before the BOCC.
No formal county action on the water-main project or EPA testing occurred at the meeting; the CAB will invite EPA for an informational presentation and has been asked to agendize the water-main project with appropriate officials.
