Silver City Citizen Advisory Board approves agenda, hears county reports and FAA airport grant

The Silver City Citizen Advisory Board met May 14 at the Silver City Schoolhouse Community Center and unanimously approved the meeting agenda. Chair Melissa Friend opened the meeting at 7:03 p.m.; Secretary Erich Obermayr moved approval, Vice-Chair Mike Young seconded and the motion passed unanimously.

Members received a series of county updates. Commissioner Cassinelli summarized recent county activity, saying a hydrant concern initially appeared to involve Storey County but that at least one hydrant is back in operation and another may be removed. He also reported that CAMPO approved an engineering contract to launch an estimated 18-month feasibility study for the east Dayton bridge using existing grant funds, and that a resolution was introduced to establish a General Improvement District at the Northern Nevada Industrial Center to enable local power generation while NV Energy continues to expand service (NV Energy estimated a two- to four-year timeline for supply). Board members discussed whether additional impact fees might be needed for roads and drainage on top of existing park and school fees.

County staff highlighted infrastructure and permitting activity, including work on north Dayton Valley storm drain design, ongoing sewer improvements, a $25,000 change order for a Dayton paving project, and building department statistics showing 159 residential permits in April, 18 commercial applications and more than 800 inspections. The board was told the Federal Aviation Administration had awarded a $1,000,000 grant for improvements at Silver Springs airport. Members also noted Central Lyon’s helipad zoning approval at Six Mile fire station and discussed timing for traffic light construction in Dayton and possible CAMPO funding for Mound House street-light improvements.

No formal actions beyond the agenda approval were taken. The board adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
