Silver City advisory board recommends county accept two donated park sculptures

The Silver City Citizen Advisory Board unanimously voted June 8 to recommend that Lyon County accept two sculptures donated to Silver City Park by Dust and Wonder Trail.
Meg Burns told the board the selection process is complete and the only remaining step was a formal recommendation. The winning obelisk will be sited near the picnic area after a close vote; a second piece, described as a railroad-spike sculpture, will be placed near the park's northeast gate and will feature the word “community” in Spanish, English, Paiute and Chinese. Burns said the board discussed whether to add Washoe language and that Evangeline Elston will present the item to the Parks Committee for follow-up.
Erich Obermayr moved that the CAB recommend Lyon County accept the two sculptures; Melissa Friend seconded the motion, and the board approved it unanimously. The recommendation goes to the Board of County Commissioners for final action; the CAB’s vote is advisory.
Board members and county staff discussed placement, language panels and a plan for Parks Committee review. Commissioner Cassinelli said he will send a supporting email to the parks board for the park sculpture.
The board took no immediate action to install the pieces; the final decision rests with the Board of County Commissioners and the County Parks Committee.
