Juno Beach council approves using patio funds to rebuild termite‑damaged gazebo

Council members debated whether to draw from the $200,000 line item earmarked for the backyard patio or from contingency. One councilor noted that the gazebo’s 2007 construction cost had been about $117,000 and that engineering typically runs about 20 percent of construction costs. Staff said $200,000 would likely cover the rebuild but that additional contingency could be tapped if needed.
Councilmember Diana moved to redesignate the backyard patio funds to rebuild the North Gazebo and to contract with the recommended engineers; the motion was seconded and approved by roll call in a unanimous vote.
The vote authorizes the interim town manager to execute engineering and construction agreements and directs staff to proceed with competitive bidding after engineering design is complete. Council also requested that staff confirm procurement thresholds under the town’s competitive consultant selection rules before any sole‑source action.
