County schedules data center ordinance workshop after public concern over venue and notice

Lyon County announced a Data Center Ordinance workshop for Aug. 3, 2026 at 9 a.m. after community members raised concerns about notice, venue size and public participation.
Community Development Director Gavin Henderson said staff completed a draft of the Data Center Ordinance and sought a workshop to review the draft and related matters. Public commenters asked that the workshop allow more than three minutes per speaker, be held in a larger venue or in the evening, and that public notice include the workshop framework in advance. Commissioner Robert Jacobson moved to schedule the workshop for Aug. 3 at 9 a.m.; Commissioner Tammy Hendrix seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
The board pulled agenda item 14.b from today’s agenda. The workshop will allow staff to present the draft ordinance and gather additional public input prior to formal hearings; staff said logistics and public-notice specifics will be provided ahead of the workshop.
