Lyon County approves $270,000, three-year contract with Porter Group for federal lobbying

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a three-year contract with Porter Group, LLC for federal government affairs consulting services, effective July 1, 2026. The contract total is $270,000 ($7,500 per month) plus allowable travel expenses.
Bob Lucey, Nevada senior advisor and director of policy and advocacy for Porter Group, presented the firm's federal lobbying efforts, noting priorities that included a new Lyon County lands bill and other items to monitor in the next Congress. County Manager Andrew Haskin characterized the group's past successes for Lyon County and recommended approval.
During public comment Robin Biggs asked that Porter Group look into Bureau of Land Management (BLM) issues. Commissioner Tammy Hendrix moved to approve the contract, Commissioner John Cassinelli seconded, and the motion passed 5-0.
The contract is renewable and is intended to provide dedicated federal advocacy for Lyon County interests; allowable travel expenses are in addition to the monthly retainer. The county did not specify a separate implementation timeline at the hearing; staff will coordinate next steps with Porter Group.
