Board OKs transfer of historic Silver City fire station to local fire district

The Lyon County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 June 18 to transfer the deed and title for the historic fire station at 140 Main St., Silver City (APN 008-012-01) to the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District and authorized the county manager to sign the required documents.
Assistant Fire Chief Ryan McIntosh presented the district's preservation and restoration proposal, outlining the station's history and the district's goals for restoring the building. County Manager Andrew Haskin told the board that staff supports the conveyance and deed transfer.
During public comment, Jim DeChambeau expressed support for preservation but cautioned that the structure has not been well maintained and will require work. Following discussion, Commissioner John Cassinelli moved to approve the transfer; Commissioner Tammy Hendrix seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
The county motion transfers full title to the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District so the local district can manage restoration and long-term stewardship. The board did not specify a funding package for repairs at the meeting; officials said the district will lead restoration planning and implementation.
Next steps: the County Manager is authorized to sign the transfer documents, after which the district will assume control and proceed with preservation planning.
