Operations update: Pasco outlines summer facility work, meal distribution and improved bus performance

Dr. Romano delivered a wide‑ranging operations update, saying facilities, nutrition and transportation teams have been active over the summer to prepare schools for the return of students. On facilities, the district is replacing temporary accordion partitions with permanent classroom walls and completing dozens of HVAC, boiler and infrastructure projects across campuses to improve safety and comfort.

On nutrition, Dr. Romano said the summer feeding program is operating at multiple sites across the county and has served more than 48,000 breakfasts and 62,000 lunches to date—more than 111,000 meals in total—through partnerships with libraries, YMCAs, daycares and mobile distributions.

Transportation improvements were highlighted: the district reported higher on‑time arrival rates last year (high school arrivals rose from the low 70s to the low 90s percentage range) and said route counts and routing efficiency have improved; the district begins the upcoming year with far fewer driver vacancies than a year ago. Dr. Romano thanked transportation and HR staff for the work to fill positions and improve performance.

The presentation also covered ongoing construction projects, future schools planned for growth areas in eastern Pasco County, and a furniture‑refresh program intended to modernize classrooms.
