The Sumner County Library Board made several administrative decisions at its July 22 meeting, appointing a treasurer and secretary, adopting a calendar of study and business meetings for 2026–27, and scheduling an August study session to finalize MOU templates and review options for accepting credit-card payments.
Chair announced that a motion to appoint "Steve Weston" as treasurer passed by voice vote and that Shannon was approved as secretary following nomination and a voice vote. (Transcript contains an earlier roll-call list that names a different "Steve" as absent; the board did not clarify the difference on the record.)
The board adopted a calendar that includes study sessions on Aug. 12 (Portland), Oct. 14 (Westmoreland) and March 10 (Gallatin), with business/voting meetings set for Sept. 16, Nov. 18 (moved from Veterans Day), Feb. 10, April 14 and May 12; all meetings were scheduled for 4:00 p.m. The chair asked directors to send current friends-group MOUs ahead of the August study session so the board can work toward a standard template with room for branch-specific flexibility.
State and regional library staff (speaker 9) reviewed the service-population distribution and a draft library-service agreement that includes updated language referencing adherence to state and federal orders and laws; board members asked that county legal counsel be consulted as needed on any compliance questions. The chair said the board will consider signing documents at a special call meeting if necessary before the September voting meeting.
Next steps: board staff will circulate MOU drafts and calendar confirmations; the August study session will focus on MOU language and credit-card implementation options so the board can vote on the MOU in September.
