Emily said the branch would initially staff about 48 hours during the week and that "that 1st month is really gonna be like a we're calling it a soft opening," with no programming scheduled for opening Fridays so staff can observe demand and adjust staffing.
Board members said the city had previously agreed to contribute funding to cover extra hours when the branch expanded operations. A board member noted Hendersonville’s prior contribution rose to help support added hours in the past. After a second, the motion was approved by voice vote; the chair asked the director to update the library website and notify the mayor’s office and other partners.
The board discussed budget and staffing contingencies and agreed the August study session will include the MOU and budget numbers for final review ahead of the September business meeting. The chair emphasized that the vote authorized the schedule change at the branch level and that funding and final implementation details would be coordinated with city partners and recorded in minutes.
Next steps: the director will post the revised hours on the library website and monitor usage during the initial month to report back to the board at a future meeting.
